We were reckless;
displaying our flaws
out in the open.
Nowhere to hide them.
(Do we still want to hide them?)

How many times have we
knelt down on our knees
begging for something we soon forget?
We sinned constantly
much like the number of times
we changed the masks on our faces.
No, we don’t care about
our own faults
nor the fading tattoos on our backs.
They haven’t got a clue
about the thoughts
running in our heads
or the beating of our hearts.

We’ll never fit in though we’ll try;
though they’ll try.
Our flaws will always
be the difference between us and them.
Between you and me.
